Every year on November 11th, the United States observes Veterans Day, a federal holiday dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This date holds historical significance, marking the anniversary of the armistice that ended major hostilities of World War I at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. While it was originally known as Armistice Day, the name was officially changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to recognize American veterans of all wars.
